What kids have to say about CIS

"Success means to get good grades, graduate high school and go to college. CIS has helped me by helping me get better grades in math. CIS has helped me to learn it is important to stay focused. Finally, CIS has helped me to stop feeling shy by letting me be in groups with other people." --

Fifth Grade Student at Cloud Elementary

What teachers say about CIS

Ariel was challenged in her math class and didn’t participate in class. Today, she is a confident student who is respected both by students and teachers alike. She has learned her positive traits through the CIS coordinated services of community service groups, math tutoring, Big Brother Big Sisters mentoring, and social skills groups.

About CIS
Mission | The Five Basics | Board of Directors

CIS Works with 4 School Districts within Sedgwick County

CIS is unique because it is a holistic approach, which serves the
child within the context of the family, the focus of CIS activities.
The staff works to remove the barriers that children face so that they
can concentrate on learning. CIS helps to raise graduation and
stay-in-school rates and improve academic performance and attendance.

The goal is to help keep children in school in the school districts
served by redirecting community services through the schools to serve at-risk children and their families.

CIS activities include tutoring, mentoring, counseling, health
services, parent involvement, case management, family-learning
programs, community service and recreation.

Many Communities In Schools' Board members participate as Board
Buddies. A Board Buddy is a relationship established between a staff
member and a member of the CIS Board of directors lasting for six
months with the vision that by having a Buddy, board members will be
able to become better acquainted with the talented personnel at CIS,
as well as become more knowledgeable ambassadors for individual sites
and initiatives. The connection to a specific site is also beneficial
to the CIS site coordinator and the kids we serve.
